Roy Shepherd

Obituary

Roy Shepherd, 86, of Lorain, passed away Friday, in the Lake Pointe Health Care Center of Lorain, following a long illness.

He was born in Greenville, Alabama, coming to Elyria in 1952, moving to Lorain in 2004. He was employed as a laborer for the ABEX Corporation, retiring after 23 years of service.

Mr. Shepherd was a Honorable World War II veteran, serving in the European-African-Middle Eastern Wars where he received 4 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrow Head Medal. A member of Second Baptist Church of Elyria, and was a Mason while in Alabama. He enjoyed farming and gardening and working in his yard.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Johnnie Pearl (nee Payne); sons, Ronnie (Angela) Shepherd of Lorain, Bobby (Marte) Shepherd of Beechwood, Craig (Lonna) Shepherd, Johnny (Vilma) Shepherd both of Dallas, Texas, Mark (Penny) Shepherd of Dayton; daughters, Joanne (James) Tucker and Minerva Daniels both of Elyria, Betty (Michael) Menifield of Detroit, Michigan, Bonnie (Jimi) Pardon of Lorain; 25 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe (Lillie) Powell, Walter (Alice) Powell all of Elyria, Dempsey (Mary) Powell of Birmingham, Alabama, Wylie (Ethel) Powell of Greenville, Alabama; sisters, Corrie Hamilton of Mobile, Alabama, Leola Gettis of Goodwater, Alabama, Johnnie Lowery and Lillie (Ervin) Cheatham of Birmingham, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Glenda Corn; parents, Robert Shepherd and Leona Shepherd-Powell; brothers, Earlie Shepherd, Nelson Powell, Jim Powell; sisters, Lula Mae Smith, Eula Hines, Roberta Murphy, Ruthie Mae White.

Friends may call Friday, December 28th, 2007 from 11 A.M. until time of service at 12 Noon in the Second Baptist Church, 427
Chapman Lane, Elyria, where the Rev. Dr. Carl P. Small, Pastor, will officiate services.

Burial to follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. Veteran Honors provided by VFW Post 1079. Online condolences may be directed to carterfuneralhome@yahoo.com. Carter Funeral Homes, Inc., Elyria, will be in charge of funeral services.
