Why all the smoke?
Pillows of black smoke filled the 5 p.m. rush hour Thursday in downtown Elyria as fire struck a defunct building along 3rd Street.
Elyria fire and EMS crews responded shortly after 4:50 p.m. to the site of the former Lorain County Fair and Riverview Mobile Home Park, and battled strong winds to fight the blaze.
